Biography

Dr. Michael Kyakula is a senior lecturer at Kyambogo University, he holds a PhD in Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering; from University of Newcastle, UK, (2004), Master of Engineering Science (Structural Design & Construction management, from University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, (1992) and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from, Makerere University, Uganda (1989). He has served in various capacities at Kyambogo University since 2004, as; Member Kyambogo University Governing council; (2016-2019), Dean Faculty of Engineering and Member of Kyambogo University Senate (2013 – 2019), Project Coordinator, African Development Bank, (HEST) Project, at Kyambogo (2013-2019), Head of Department; Department of Civil and Building Engineering, (2010-2012).  He has served as, Chairperson for the Technical Committee for Cement, Concrete products, Tiles and other construction Materials; UNBS/TC106; (2021 to Date), Chairperson of the Civil Engineering / Building Technical Committee TC3 of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) (2014- 2021), Chairperson; Uganda Technical College, Elgon; Governing Council (2019-to date), Member, Construction Sector Skills Council, Ministry of Education and Sports (2015-todate), Member, Uganda Technical College, Kichwamba Governing Council (2016-to date), Member, National Multi-Sectoral Environmental Monitoring Committee for Isimba Hydropower Project (2015-2019), Board Member: Uganda National Business and Technical Examinations Board, representing public Universities (2010-2013). He has worked as a consultant on several Engineering projects in private capacity. He has served as an Engineer on government projects as Construction Engineer; Project Implementation Unit, Ministry of Education & Sports (1995-199), Municipal Engineer Masaka Municipal Council (1994-1995) and Civil Engineer Ministry of Housing Lands and Urban Development, (1990-1994). He is an overseer/ Bishop with Universal Apostles Fellowship Church of Righteousness. He has been married for over 27 years and has one child, a daughter!
