Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Higher education needs to prepare engineers of the future with the skills and know-how they will need to manage rapid change, uncertainty and complexity. Key issues here are the ability to tailor engineering solutions to the local social, economic, political, cultural and environmental contexts and to understand the impacts of local actions globally.
About Us
The Department runs a total of seven (7) academic programmes: Three Masters, one Bachelors and three Diplomas. The Department has witnessed increased demand of registered students over the years since the inception of Kyambogo University from 2001 to date.
Our staff are actively publishing research
Research & Publications
The peer-reviewed literature represents the accumulated knowledge of a field. Most of our academic staff have done recognised research. They disseminated their findings and results to other researchers and to the broader public by publishing in high-quality journals that engage in a rigorous peer-review process.
Academic Programmes
The programme aims to produce graduate engineers who are well equipped in theoretical, analytical and practical technical knowledge and skills to guide and manage the infrastructure development and construction industry.

Message from the Head of Department
There is need for Civil & Building Engineers and Water Engineers: to possess ‘not only intellect, but of character and heart to understand when problems are best solved using common-sense rather than by mathematics; to be curious and excite debate; and to have an ‘ability to synthesize solutions, not simply an ability to analyze problems.

Hands-on Activities, Machinery and Resources
There may be a few hundred tools that are used by civil engineers, and there are always new developments happening in this field. This may include higher capacity survey equipment that’s meant to address certain challenges while construction is underway. The university has tried its level best to acquire the best machinery to support hands-on learning while with us.
